Homemade Foods

I grew up close to my dad and brother, so I'm sort of a tomboy inside, but I'm also pretty girly and have become more of a girly-girl as I've been getting older (which I used to be ashamed of, but befriending lots of really cool girly-girls or tomboys who've become girlier as well, I've realized there's nothing to be ashamed of and to enjoy being a girl ;)). One of my new traits nowadays as I'm becoming girlier is discovering the awesome world of food - namely, cooking/baking and being creative in the kitchen =) I have set up some really fun cooking parties with a couple of girl friends and am excited for our next one as my friends will make some awesome Thai dishes, and I will try my hand at making homemade donuts! The challenge for me is that I like to eat healthy, and so when making homemade foods... the question is, how is it possible to make unhealthy foods healthy, such as donuts?!? I plan on substituting butter with oil and using soy milk and non-fat milk (two different versions) instead of fatty milk, but I know iron chefs out there may cringe as these substitutions will definitely take out the authentic taste the best donut in the world gives to its consumers... but yet, why not give it a try right? Does anyone have any thoughts on making unhealthy foods healthy when trying their hand at homemade goods such as donuts, bagels, pancakes, cakes, cookies, and not just pastries/baked goods, but other dishes?
